Healthy Building Network, along with Energy Efficiency for All (EEFA), has released “Guidance for Specifying Healthier Insulation and Air-Sealing Materials,” a new resource to help those working in multifamily energy efficiency upgrades make healthier material choices. This document joins an expanding suite of resources which began with the in-depth research report, “Making Affordable Multifamily Housing More Energy Efficient: A Guide to Healthier Upgrade Materials.” The new spec guidance document provides straight forward guidance for selecting healthier insulation and air-sealing materials and for incorporating these choices into specifications for energy-efficiency upgrade projects. The information is provided in multiple formats including summary guidance on healthier materials, tiered recommendations by product category, and sample specification language. Also available are a Policy Brief and Fact Sheet that provide information on those policies that can be used to influence healthier material choices in multifamily energy-efficiency upgrades.
